Internet allows people to find the latest information world wide. Internet is also a place for trader to promote their products. Products here are also includes music industry. Internet allows people to listen to new songs right from their computer. They can even download the songs via the internet. Many sites provide free music to be downloaded via the internet. People are more interested in getting songs from the internet rather than buying them in the music store.
This phenomenon makes the CD sale is decreasing year by year. Moreover, the music downloaded from the internet is usually does not have the legal permission from the music publishers. It arouses the copyright problem. Therefore, it makes the music industry take loss for their music selling. Downloading music via the internet is still something debatable in Indonesia. Unfortunately, the government hasn’t given the adequate response to this problem, whereas, this can be an intellectual property violence for the song writers, artists and the music publishers.
Although not all websites provides the illegal music download, still it is a violation against someone’s intellectual property and it needs to be taken into action to abolish this crime. One thing that the government should do is to make the right regulation about cyber business in order to protect the intellectual property. And the internet users need to be aware not to violate someone’s intellectual property by downloading music from the legal music providers.
