That's your network file transfers speed. If that's what you mean and you use Ethernet.
Press Start-My Computer-View system info-Hardware-Device manager-Network adapters-right click on Properties-Advanced-Duplex mode-set to 100Mbps-OK.

you are getting confused with the speed of your connection between the PC and the router which depends on the hardware of both - this may be 10/100/1000Mbps.

The speed of the internet connection between the router and your provider (i.e. the internet) is the limiting factor. This is usually anything from 2Mbps to 10Mbps depending on your package. So upgrading your hardware to 100Mbps will have no impact on your internet speeds
Hope this clarifies

There is no ISP in the UK that delivers that kind of speed. The nearest to that will be Virgin when they offer 50 Mb and that wont be for another 18 months or so.

Even so a price hasn't been worked out yet but I would think it would be about £50 or £60 a month as their 20 Mb is £36 a month now. Sale promotions not included.

Even so that speed will only be obtainable with fibre optic cable broadband and Virgin is the only ISP who uses it.

The only place you could have seen that is on the modem's data display. That speed is the maximum the modem can handle and is the standard for all modems in the UK.

With ADSL that speed is physically impossible and you won't see 100 Mb for at least another 10 years with cable.

And that wont happen without a massive infrastructure upgrade of which companies haven't got the money to do!

I saw a news item recently were they are experimenting in one part of the country with super fast internet speeds being installed by virgin media optic fibre cable connections.

Not sure what area it was but you are limited at the moment by what your isp can provide for you.

Check old news items about internet speed story!

these answers have it covered
my pc is perfectly capable of operating at 100 mbps but my isp only operates at 54mbps,
you are reliant on what your isp is sending out,

Yup the guys here have covered it pretty well, you can not get 100 mbps in UK only Japan :( The 100mbps you are referring to is between the local router in your home and the computer and i can and if you can only get 8mbps from your ISP for talking sake then the connection speed will not improve

This greatly depends on your router and/or hub configuration. See there were 10mbps network gear that was widely used in the 80's and early 90s until the 100mps side was phased in. Here recently, we have 1000mbps.

It, again depends on your router/hub and network card. It will always connect at the fastest speed it can.

Hook your computer directly into your cable company's main line.....its not really possible to get 100Mbps as a consumer.

You can't do this with software on your computer..

You need to contact your ISP and ask for a faster connection. (You'll have to pay.)
